Currency exchange service in Taiwan is strictly regulated by the government. You can only exchange money at banks or authorised businesses (hotels). There is no independent money changers on the streets like in other Asian cities. For that reason, local banks are the ones that offer the best exchange rates in the market.
Aside from banks, most malls and department stores offer currency exchange services. These forex shops are normally located at the customer service kiosks or information desks. Malls are a good alternative to banks because of the longer business hours. They are also easy to locate given their huge structures.
You can also withdraw local currency at ATMs. Just check with your bank first about the oversea transaction charges.
It is strongly recommended that you purchase comprehensive travel insurance to cover the duration of your visit to Taiwan and to protect against cancellation charges, loss or damage to your luggage and personal effects, loss of cash and medical expenses
